We are pleased to continue Meet the Members, our interview series highlighting the people behind SEAP and the diversity of experience within our community. Today we present Natacha Clarac, Managing Director and Partner of Athenora Consulting and Board member of SEAP. We look forward to showcasing more voices, ideas and expertise that make SEAP such a strong and trusted network.
1. Can you briefly introduce yourself, your current role and the type of organisation you work for?
I am the Managing Director of Athenora Consulting, a lobbying firm and a member of the SEAP Board. I am passionate about politics and policy, driving ethical advocacy, and ensuring our work helps clients navigate Brussels and contribute to better policymaking.
2. Why did you/your organisation decide to join SEAP, and what aspect of SEAP membership do you value most?
I joined SEAP to be part of a network of peers committed to transparent practice. Membership allows me to participate in collective action that strengthens transparency, trust, and gives lobbying the legitimacy it deserves as a bridge between public and private interests. Our webinars and discussions are valuable as we share insights and best practices.
3. From your perspective, what is the biggest challenge or opportunity currently facing the EU public affairs profession – and where do you see SEAP’s role in addressing it?
We face increasing scrutiny, especially in these new times, where disinformation can be viral. To build trust in policy-making, we have a collective responsibility for the ideas we convey. SEAP plays a crucial role in promoting ethical standards, supporting the profession and fostering a vibrant community where practitioners learn from each other and act responsibly together.
4. What one piece of advice would you give to someone who wants to lobby effectively and ethically in Brussels?
Be honest. It’s okay to say “I don’t know.” Value the quality of relationships over immediate results, listen actively, and stay passionate. Integrity, transparency, and long-term trust are the foundation of effective, ethical advocacy.
