We are pleased to continue Meet the Members, our interview series highlighting the people behind SEAP and the diversity of experience within our community.
Today, we present Matthew Gatt Seretny, Consultant at Gatt Seretny Public Affairs and Public Relations.
Can you briefly introduce yourself, your current role and the type of organisation you work for?
I am Matthew Gatt Seretny, and I am a public affairs and communications consultant. I support organisations with EU policy engagement and designing advocacy strategies. I’ve worked across agrifood, EU-funded projects and financial services, helping clients navigate complex policy and stakeholder environments.
Why did you/your organisation decide to join SEAP, and what aspect of SEAP membership do you value most?
I joined SEAP for the community. Advocacy works best when we learn from each other, share experience and raise standards together. SEAP creates a space to strengthen our profession and reinforce advocacy as a credible, legitimate channel for stakeholder engagement.
From your perspective, what is the biggest challenge or opportunity currently facing the EU public affairs profession – and where do you see SEAP’s role in addressing it?
Cutting through the noise. In a world of AI and social media, the real challenge is to reach your stakeholders while they are being overwhelmed with information. Our role is to help them communicate clearly, credibly and strategically, ensuring the right messages reach the right audiences, for the right reasons.
What one piece of advice would you give to someone who wants to lobby effectively and ethically in Brussels?
Know your client inside out and focus on long-term impact. Shouting the loudest might get attention, but it rarely builds trust. Consistency, clarity and credible engagement are what build trust and deliver lasting impact.
