SEAP statement on the banning of Amazon from the European Parliament

In the last number of years there has been an increased scrutiny by the European Parliament. As part of this, but not exclusively so, the European Parliament has called for the exclusion of sectors, corporate entities, and organisations.

The Society of European Affairs Professionals (SEAP) does not support the exclusion of lobbyists without just cause and believes that this has no place in a democratic society. We do not condone the continued actions of Amazon to ignore the rules of the European Parliament. If an entity receives a formal summons to attend the European Parliament, it should comply.

“Lobbying is not a one-way street and we cannot only choose to enter the Parliament when we need something. Amazon should have made someone available to discuss with the Parliamentarians”, said Emma Brown, SEAP Vice President.
