The Society of European Affairs Professionals (SEAP) congratulates Teresa Anjinho on taking office as the new European Ombudsman and looks forward to working with her. Her leadership will be valuable in fostering transparency and accountability across EU institutions.
We also extend our gratitude to Emily O’Reilly for her 11 years of dedicated service as the first female European Ombudsman. Her advocacy for openness and ethical practices has left a lasting impact, including her efforts to improve EU decision-making transparency and her critique of self-regulation within ethics frameworks.
As Ms. Anjinho steps into her new role, SEAP hopes that she will continue to address challenges such as the “revolving door” issue, enhance transparency, and work to rebuild trust between citizens and EU institutions. We are encouraged by her commitment to constructive solutions.
SEAP President Emma Brown commented: “Mrs Anjinho’s assumption of office marks a new chapter for the European Ombudsman’s office. We are confident that her experience will no doubt lead to a pragmatic approach that will uphold the EU’s core values of openness and accountability. A special thanks to Mrs O’Reilly who was a trailblazer in this position. At SEAP, we stand ready to collaborate in ensuring high standards of transparency and ethics within the EU institutions and the European affairs community.”
